Blackout. See houses, and they appear to move, wavering, like when in the Matrix and something has hit it. It’s a green screen like the Matrix code numbers, and old computer screens. Warner Brothers symbol comes up. Blackout (0:00:12) Village Roadshow Pictures comes up, the lines of the ‘V’ has light shining through. (looks like a vent spinning.) |
Main title / Trinity Infinity theme, (as called on CD.) It seems to be based around the key of E minor. Starts with a continuous high, sust note on the vlns, (on the tonic, E.) Harp, chimes and piano cresc as they ascend, whilst the houses are rippling. Horns play, followed by the trumpets, (This is a recurring motif, ‘horn, and ‘trumpet’ motif.) The sound effects combine with the music, the computer noises into a crash on the cymbals when the Warner Brother’s symbol appears, with a cresc. After blackout, hn and trpt motif again, with bass drum on the beat, with a tubular bell when ‘Village roadshow’ appears, and ends with the str, and the trpt notes. As light shines through the ‘V,’ Piano, Db and cello play alternative notes, a semi-tone apart, (Eb – E and F# - G) very quietly. |
Thunder rumble / wind sound, with computer sounds crescendo and get higher whilst can see houses. Computer sounds, and white noise as cymbal crashes. As ‘V’ appears, shooting computer noises with reverb. The rumble continues when can see the whole picture of the ‘V’. |

Blackout. Matrix code starts to fall from the top of the screen, code finds letters to make the word ‘ THE MATRIX’ in the middle of a black screen. Words come towards viewer and each letter disappears. Blackout (0:00:36) to green, flashing square just above the middle of the screen. Trinity voice over, talking to Apoc, is clearly a phone conversation, (can hear their conversation, but don’t see them, still computer screen.) Picture changes to mass of numbers in blocks, move to focus on the top left-hand corner. As hear, "I better go" go through ‘0’ to blackout (0:00:39) to a small white dot in the centre of the screen which expands into a torch light, and see police officer holding it. |
Cresc of instr, more instr come in with trombones playing continuous notes, to build up the tension. Tubular bell o E when code falls. Busy str come in and held notes on hns and trpts decrescendo and cresc again with another crash on the cymbal and bell, (sounds like a death bell, and is heard later when Switch dies.) Music fades out as letters. Vlns get higher – increase in tension, and then, as fades, E on trombone with bass drum. Clarinets play alternating semi-tones, (E-F) whilst on computer screen. Music stops (0:00:44) when the phone is answered. When numbers on screen, very quiet clarinets come in playing around the note C – causing havoc. Cresc slower as move to focus on top left corner. As go through ‘0’ hear hn, trpt motif, piano and dischordant str all leads with cresc to gong. |
Computer modem sounds as letters fall from top of screen, and as each letter goes up, to form ‘THE MATRIX.‘ Fuzz sound as each letter disappears, and leads into beeps for the green flashing square. The beeps are in time, o the beats of the bar. Can hear phone 1 ringing, rings twice, then is picked up - phone conversation between Trinity and Apoc. As go through ‘0’ very technical sounds, electrical buzzes. |

On police, and surroundings. Police kick door down, room 303, that Trinity is in. See her back, she’s sat, facing the wall. Torches of police focus on her. Cut to her eyes – rest of face covered by a laptop computer, gradually moves so can see the whole of her face. She puts her hands above her head slowly. Cuts to outside, with Agents arriving ad talk to other police officers. Cut to inside, officer walks over to Trinity, to handcuff her. |
Gong faded. Low str on D with high vlns on C# resolving onto D as camera turns from door to police. As torches focus on Trinity, trombones play two-note dischord. Cymbal crash as go to her from officers, with vlns playing held notes (G# and C#). When see whole of face sounds like a choir I and gets louder. As see hands going up over laptop can hear G and F# on keyboard (same notes as buzzer o clock later.) Gradual cresc with trpts coming in, then bass drum stops notes and cut to outside of building with roll and crash on the cymbal aswell. (0:01:50) Very quiet hn playing held note, G. As Agents get out of car, bass drum and muted trombone (E) Drone continues under dialogue very quietly, on E. Vln plays very high E and cresc. Dischords cresc and stop when cut to inside again with a crash on the cymbal (0:02:36) Two notes of chorus (oah) held as officer walks forward. As she moves her eyes, hear zing on ride cymbal. (frequent throughout film.) |
Reverb sound effects of lights moving. Sound effects to go with the action as expected, such as car driving up and getting of handcuffs. |

Trinity suddenly turns round and hits the officer ad she fights the other officers. She runs round wall, jumps in the air to kick him, whizzing of camera around the room as action is frozen and comes out of it again by kicking him. |
Drum into staccato piano accomp, with high vln again playing sust E. Music continues through the frozen action. Trpts come in playing high (F#, G) when movement again. |
Lots of shooting – sounds of guns and sound as action is frozen, ‘whoosh’ sound. Gun shots in time with her steps o the wall. |
